Avoid Data Loss: Guide to Security Camera Micro SD Cards
If you use smart security cameras that support local storage (like Wyze, Eufy, or Reolink), you must choose the right micro SD card. Standard SD cards designed for phones or cameras will quickly burn out under the stress of constant security video writing. Here is what to look for.
Look for “High Endurance” Ratings
Always buy cards labeled **High Endurance** or **Max Endurance**. These are manufactured with robust memory cells designed to survive thousands of hours of continuous read/write cycles in extreme outdoor temperatures.
Speed Class Requirements
For 1080p and 2K smart cameras, a **Class 10, U1 (or V10)** card is sufficient. If you are recording in 4K resolution, you need a **U3 (or V30)** card to prevent stuttering or skipped frames.
Storage Capacity Guidance
- 32GB: Stores about 2-3 days of continuous HD footage.
- 64GB: Stores about 5-7 days of continuous HD footage.
- 128GB: Stores up to 2 weeks of continuous HD footage.
