Turn Your Echo Speakers into a Security System
Alexa Guard is a free feature that turns your existing Amazon Echo speakers into smart security monitors. When you set the system to “Away,” your Echo devices listen for suspicious sounds like breaking glass or smoke alarms and alert you immediately. Here is how to set it up.
How to Enable Alexa Guard
- Open the Alexa App and tap More > Settings.
- Select Guard and follow the on-screen setup instructions.
- Link your smart lights and security cameras if you want Alexa to simulate occupancy.
How to Use It
As you leave the house, say: “Alexa, I’m leaving.” Your Echo devices will chime to indicate Guard is active. If your Echo hears glass breaking, it will send an audio recording of the sound to your smartphone so you can verify the emergency.
