Smart Lighting Scenes for Meal Prep and Dining

Kitchen lighting needs to be versatile. You need bright, cool task lighting when chopping vegetables, but soft, warm ambient light when dining or hosting. By automating your kitchen lights with smart switches and bulbs, you can set the perfect mood for every cooking stage.

The “Prep Time” Routine

Set under-cabinet LED light strips and ceiling spotlights to a bright cool white (4000K) at 100% brightness. This increases visibility and reduces shadows on your cutting boards.

The “Dining Scene” Routine

When dinner is served, dim the main ceiling lights to 30%, shift the color temperature to a warm amber (2700K), and turn on soft background music on your kitchen speakers.

The “Late-Night Snack” Routine

Use a motion sensor under the cabinet. If motion is detected between 11 PM and 5 AM, turn the under-cabinet lighting on to a dim 10% red or warm color so you can find a glass of water without waking yourself up.
