Solve Your Ring Doorbell Disconnection Issues

If your Ring Video Doorbell keeps going offline or losing connection to your Wi-Fi network, you are not alone. This is a common issue that is usually related to signal strength or power supply rather than a hardware defect. Before calling customer support, try these six quick troubleshooting steps to get your doorbell back online.

1. Check Your RSSI (Signal Strength)

Open the Ring app, tap your doorbell, go to Device Health, and look at the RSSI value. An RSSI between -30 and -50 is excellent, while anything above -60 is poor and will cause frequent disconnections.

2. Move Your Router Closer or Use a Chime Pro

Brick walls, metal doors, and concrete can easily block 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signals. If your router is far from the front door, consider installing a Ring Chime Pro or a Wi-Fi extender halfway between your router and the door to boost the signal.

3. Check the Battery Charge

Even if your Ring doorbell is hardwired, it still relies on its internal battery to operate. If the battery level drops below 20%, the device may shut down its Wi-Fi radio to conserve power. Remove the battery and charge it fully.

4. Restart Your Wi-Fi Router

Sometimes, your router’s IP address allocation table gets full, blocking new connections. Unplug your router for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait for it to boot up fully.
