বিদ্যুৎ গেলে স্মার্ট হোমের কী হয়
বেশিরভাগ স্মার্ট প্লাগ, বাল্ব আর সুইচ ওয়াই-ফাইয়ের মাধ্যমে চলে। বিদ্যুৎ গেলে একসঙ্গে দুটি জিনিস বন্ধ হয়: ডিভাইসটি নিজে, আর আপনার রাউটার ও ইন্টারনেট সংযোগ। বাসায় আইপিএস থাকলে লাইট-ফ্যান চলতে থাকে, কিন্তু রাউটার আইপিএস লাইনে না থাকলে ফোনের অ্যাপ থেকে কিছুই নিয়ন্ত্রণ করা যায় না।
প্রথম কাজ: রাউটার আর ওএনইউ চালু রাখুন
- ফাইবার ইন্টারনেটে দুটি যন্ত্র থাকে: ওএনইউ (যেখানে ফাইবার তার ঢোকে) আর ওয়াই-ফাই রাউটার। দুটোকেই ব্যাকআপে রাখতে হবে; একটি বন্ধ হলেই ইন্টারনেট চলে যায়।
- এ কাজের সবচেয়ে সহজ সমাধান একটি মিনি ডিসি ইউপিএস, যা রাউটার ইউপিএস নামে বিক্রি হয়। কেনার আগে রাউটার ও ওএনইউ-এর অ্যাডাপ্টারে লেখা ভোল্টেজ (সাধারণত ৯ বা ১২ ভোল্ট) মিলিয়ে নিন, আর দেখুন ইউপিএসটি অন্তত ততটা অ্যাম্পিয়ার দিতে পারে কি না (দুটি যন্ত্র একই ইউপিএসে চললে দুটির যোগফল)।
- বাসায় আইপিএস থাকলে রাউটারের সকেটটি আইপিএস লাইনে আছে কি না ইলেকট্রিশিয়ানকে দিয়ে যাচাই করিয়ে নিন। মনে রাখবেন, আপনার এলাকায় ইন্টারনেট সেবাদাতার যন্ত্রপাতিতে বিদ্যুৎ না থাকলে নিজের ব্যাকআপ থাকা সত্ত্বেও ইন্টারনেট চলে যেতে পারে।
কোন ডিভাইস ইন্টারনেট ছাড়াও চলে
কিছু ডিভাইস টাইমার বা শিডিউল নিজের ভেতরে জমা রাখে, তাই ইন্টারনেট না থাকলেও সময়মতো চালু-বন্ধ হয়। অন্যগুলো প্রতিটি কাজের জন্য ক্লাউডের ওপর নির্ভর করে। কেনার সময় পণ্যের বিবরণে “local timer”, “offline schedule” বা “LAN control” লেখা আছে কি না দেখুন, আর বিক্রেতাকে সরাসরি জিজ্ঞেস করুন।
বিদ্যুৎ ফিরলে ডিভাইস কী করবে
বিদ্যুৎ ফিরলে স্মার্ট প্লাগ বা সুইচ কোন অবস্থায় থাকবে, সেটি অ্যাপের একটি সেটিং, সাধারণত “Power-on behaviour” বা “Relay status” নামে। এটি “আগের অবস্থা” বা “বন্ধ” হিসেবে সেট করে রাখুন। নইলে মাঝরাতে বিদ্যুৎ এলে সব লাইট একসঙ্গে জ্বলে উঠতে পারে। ইস্ত্রি, হিটার বা গরম হয় এমন যেকোনো যন্ত্রের জন্য সবসময় বন্ধ (Off) বেছে নিন: আগের অবস্থা বেছে রাখলে বিদ্যুৎ যাওয়ার সময় চালু থাকা যন্ত্রটি বিদ্যুৎ ফিরলেই নিজে থেকে আবার চালু হয়ে যাবে, খালি বাসায়ও।
আইপিএসের ক্ষমতার হিসাব
স্মার্ট প্লাগ বা সুইচ নিজে খুব কম বিদ্যুৎ নেয়, সাধারণত এক-দুই ওয়াটের মতো। আসল হিসাব হলো প্লাগে কী লাগাচ্ছেন। ফ্রিজ, পানির মোটর বা এসি সাধারণ বাসার আইপিএসে চালানোর পরিকল্পনা করবেন না। আইপিএস লাইনে লাইট, ফ্যান, রাউটার আর ছোট যন্ত্রই রাখুন।

What happens to a smart home in a power cut
Most smart plugs, bulbs and switches work over Wi-Fi. When the power goes, two things stop at once: the device itself, and your router and internet connection. If you have an IPS, your lights and fans keep running, but unless the router is also on the IPS line, the phone app can no longer control anything.
First job: keep the router and ONU alive
- Fibre internet uses two boxes: the ONU (where the fibre cable comes in) and the Wi-Fi router. Both need backup; if either one is off, there is no internet.
- The simplest fix is a mini DC UPS, often sold as a router UPS. Before buying, match the voltage printed on your router and ONU adapters (usually 9 V or 12 V) and check that the UPS can supply at least the current they are rated for (combined, if both run from one UPS).
- If you have an IPS, ask your electrician to confirm the router’s socket is on the IPS line. If your internet provider’s local equipment loses power, the internet can still drop even with your own backup.
Which devices work without the internet
Some devices store their timers and schedules on the device itself, so they keep switching on time with no internet. Others depend on the cloud for everything. When buying, look for “local timer”, “offline schedule” or “LAN control” in the product description, and ask the seller directly.
What the device does when power returns
What a smart plug or switch does when the power comes back is a setting in its app, usually called “Power-on behaviour” or “Relay status”. Set it to “Previous state” or “Off”. Otherwise every light can come on at once when power returns at 3 a.m. For an iron, heater or anything else that heats up, always choose Off: with Previous state, an appliance that was on when the power went will switch itself back on when power returns, even in an empty flat.
Sizing the IPS
A smart plug or switch uses very little power itself, typically around a watt or two. What matters is what you plug into it. Don’t plan to run a fridge, water pump or air conditioner on a typical home IPS. Keep the IPS line for lights, fans, the router and small devices.

- Put the router and ONU on backup.
- Choose devices with offline timers.
- Set the power-on behaviour of every plug and switch.
- Keep only light loads on the IPS.
