আগে ঠিক করুন, কোথায় কী দেখবেন
- ঘরের ভেতরে (বাচ্চা, বয়স্ক মানুষ বা ড্রয়িং রুম দেখতে): সাধারণ ইনডোর ক্যামেরাই যথেষ্ট। ঘোরানো যায় এমন (প্যান-টিল্ট) মডেলে অ্যাপ থেকে দিক বদলানো যায়।
- বারান্দা, গেট বা বৃষ্টির ছাঁট আসে এমন জায়গায়: নির্মাতা যেসব মডেলকে আউটডোর বলে এবং IP রেটিং দেয় (যেমন IP65, IP66, IP67), সেগুলো বেছে নিন। ইনডোর মডেলের পেজে সাধারণত কোনো IP রেটিং থাকে না; এমন ক্যামেরা খোলা বারান্দায় বা বাইরের দেয়ালে লাগাবেন না।
- একই সময়ে দুই দিক দেখতে চাইলে: এক লেন্সের প্যান-টিল্ট ক্যামেরা একবারে একটি দিকেই তাকায়; অন্য দিকটা তখন দেখা যায় না। দুই দিক একসঙ্গে দেখতে দুটি ক্যামেরা, অথবা দুই লেন্সের (ডুয়াল-লেন্স) মডেল লাগে।
বিদ্যুৎ, ওয়াই-ফাই বা ইন্টারনেট গেলে কী হয়
এই চারটি বিষয় আলাদা, আর মডেলভেদে ডিভাইসগুলোর কাজের ধরনও আলাদা হতে পারে:
- বিদ্যুৎ গেলে: ক্যামেরায় ব্যাকআপ না থাকলে দেখা, রেকর্ডিং, সবই বন্ধ। লোডশেডিংয়ে চালু রাখতে ক্যামেরাকে আইপিএস লাইনে বা সঠিক ভোল্টেজের মিনি ইউপিএস পোর্টে রাখতে হবে (নিচে “পাওয়ার” দেখুন)।
- মেমোরি কার্ডে রেকর্ডিং: টিপি-লিংক টাপো (Tapo) জানায়, ক্যামেরা রাউটারের সংযোগ হারালেও মেমোরি কার্ডে রেকর্ডিং চলতে থাকে। অন্য ব্র্যান্ডের ক্ষেত্রে আমরা নির্মাতার কাছ থেকে এমন স্পষ্ট তথ্য পাইনি; আপনার মডেলের ম্যানুয়াল দেখে নিন।
- বাইরে থেকে লাইভ দেখা ও ফোনে অ্যালার্ট (সতর্কবার্তা): এর জন্য ইন্টারনেট লাগে। ইন্টারনেট না থাকলে এগুলো বন্ধ থাকে।
- ক্লাউডে ভিডিও রাখা: ইন্টারনেট লাগে, আর সাধারণত আলাদা সাবস্ক্রিপশন লাগে।
টাপোর ক্ষেত্রে, ইন্টারনেট বন্ধ কিন্তু ফোন আর ক্যামেরা একই ওয়াই-ফাইতে থাকলে অ্যাপে লাইভ দেখা আর রেকর্ড করা ভিডিও (প্লেব্যাক) দেখা যায় বলে নির্মাতা জানায়। ইন্টারনেট ফিরলে বাইরে থেকেও আবার দেখা যাবে।
পাওয়ার: মিনি ইউপিএসে চালাতে চাইলে
ক্যামেরাভেদে অ্যাডাপ্টারের ভোল্টেজ আলাদা। যেমন নির্মাতার ওয়েবসাইট অনুযায়ী টাপো C210 চলে 9V 0.6A-তে, আর ইজভিজ (EZVIZ) H6c ও C6N চলে 5V 1A-তে। মিনি ইউপিএসের যে পোর্টে লাগাবেন, তার ভোল্টেজ, কানেক্টর ও পোলারিটি ক্যামেরার অ্যাডাপ্টারের সঙ্গে হুবহু মিলতে হবে; ভুল ভোল্টেজে ক্যামেরা নষ্ট হতে পারে। বিস্তারিত: লোডশেডিং গাইড।
মেমোরি কার্ড নাকি ক্লাউড
- মেমোরি কার্ড: একবার কিনলেই হয়, মাসিক খরচ নেই। কার্ড ভরে গেলে সাধারণত পুরোনো ভিডিও মুছে নতুনটা রাখে। ক্যামেরা চুরি হলে কার্ডও যায়, তাই ক্যামেরা নাগালের বাইরে লাগান।
- কোন কার্ড: টিপি-লিংকের পরামর্শ অনুযায়ী অন্তত Class 10 / U1 / V10 গতির কার্ড, আর সারাক্ষণ রেকর্ডিংয়ের জন্য “High Endurance” ধরনের কার্ড। গতি আর টেকসই হওয়া আলাদা বিষয়: গতি বোঝায় কার্ডে কত দ্রুত ভিডিও সেভ হয়, আর এন্ডুরেন্স বোঝায় বারবার ভিডিও লেখা কার্ডটি কতদিন সহ্য করতে পারবে। সর্বোচ্চ কত জিবি চলে, তা মডেল ও হার্ডওয়্যার ভার্সনভেদে আলাদা; নির্মাতার ওয়েবসাইটে দেখুন।
- ক্লাউড: ঐচ্ছিক। ক্যামেরা চুরি হলেও ক্লিপ থাকে, কিন্তু ইন্টারনেট আর সাবস্ক্রিপশন লাগে। দাম ও পেমেন্টের উপায় ব্র্যান্ড আর অ্যাপভেদে আলাদা; কেনার আগে অ্যাপে দেখে নিন।
মোট খরচ যেভাবে হিসাব করবেন
শুধু ক্যামেরার দাম দেখলে বাজেট কম পড়বে। যোগ করুন: ক্যামেরা + মেমোরি কার্ড (ক্লাউড না নিলে প্রায় বাধ্যতামূলক) + দরকার হলে বাড়তি তার বা সকেট + লোডশেডিংয়ে চালাতে চাইলে ব্যাকআপ + ক্লাউড নিলে তার সাবস্ক্রিপশন। নিচের টেবিলে কয়েকটি মডেলের দোকানের দাম আর দাম দেখার তারিখ দেওয়া হলো।
সেটআপ
- দেয়ালে লাগানোর আগে টেবিলে রেখেই ক্যামেরা চালু করে অ্যাপে যুক্ত করুন। বক্সে বা ম্যানুয়ালে যে অ্যাপের নাম লেখা, সেটাই নামান।
- অনেক মডেল শুধু 2.4 GHz ওয়াই-ফাইতে যুক্ত হয়। যুক্ত করার সময় ফোন যেন সেই নেটওয়ার্কেই থাকে।
- মেমোরি কার্ড ঢুকিয়ে অ্যাপ থেকে ফরম্যাট করুন।
- প্রথম দিনেই অ্যাকাউন্টে শক্তিশালী পাসওয়ার্ড দিন, আর অ্যাপ ও ক্যামেরার সফটওয়্যার আপডেট রাখুন।
সাধারণ সমস্যা
- অ্যাপে “অফলাইন”: ক্যামেরায় বিদ্যুৎ আছে কি না, রাউটারে ইন্টারনেট আছে কি না, ক্যামেরা রাউটার থেকে বেশি দূরে কি না দেখুন। ওয়াই-ফাইয়ের নাম বা পাসওয়ার্ড বদলালে ক্যামেরা আবার যুক্ত করতে হয়। শেষ উপায় হিসেবে ম্যানুয়াল দেখে রিসেট করুন; রিসেটে সেটিংস মুছে যেতে পারে।
- কার্ড পাচ্ছে না (চিনছে না): ক্যামেরা যে ধরনের ও যত জিবির কার্ড সাপোর্ট করে, তেমন আসল কার্ড ব্যবহার করুন, ক্যামেরা বন্ধ রেখে কার্ড ঢোকান, তারপর অ্যাপ থেকে ফরম্যাট করুন।
- রাতে জানালার কাঁচের ভেতর দিয়ে বাইরে দেখা যায় না: ক্যামেরার নাইট ভিশনের আলো কাঁচে প্রতিফলিত হতে পারে। বাইরে দেখতে হলে বাইরের উপযোগী ক্যামেরা ভালো উপায়।
প্রতিবেশীর গোপনীয়তা ও নিরাপত্তা
পাশের ফ্ল্যাট, সিঁড়ি বা প্রতিবেশীর জানালার দিকে ক্যামেরা তাক করবেন না। ভাড়া বাসায় দেয়ালে ড্রিল (ছিদ্র) করার আগে বাড়িওয়ালার অনুমতি নিন। বাইরের ক্যামেরার জন্য নতুন সকেট বা তার টানতে হলে মেইন সুইচ বন্ধ করে দক্ষ ইলেকট্রিশিয়ানকে দিয়ে করান, আর অ্যাডাপ্টার ও তারের জয়েন্টে (জোড়ায়) যেন পানি না লাগে।
First decide what you need to see
- Indoors (children, an older relative, the living room): an ordinary indoor camera is enough. A pan-tilt model can be turned from the app.
- A balcony, gate or anywhere rain blows in: choose a model the maker sells as outdoor and gives an IP rating (such as IP65, IP66 or IP67). Indoor models’ pages usually state no IP rating; don’t mount one on an open balcony or an outside wall.
- Two directions at the same time: a single-lens pan-tilt camera looks one way at a time; the other way is unwatched meanwhile. To cover both at once you need two cameras or a dual-lens model.
What happens when power, Wi-Fi or the internet goes
These are four separate things, and behaviour can differ by model:
- Power cut: without backup the camera stops completely, viewing and recording alike. To keep it running in load-shedding, put it on the IPS line or on a mini UPS port of the right voltage (see “Power” below).
- Recording to the memory card: TP-Link says Tapo cameras keep recording to the memory card even when they lose their router connection. We found no equally clear statement from other makers; check your model’s manual.
- Remote live view and phone alerts: these need the internet and stop without it.
- Cloud video storage: needs the internet, and usually a separate subscription.
For Tapo, the maker says that when the internet is down but your phone and the camera are on the same Wi-Fi, the app can still show live view and recorded clips (playback). Remote viewing returns when the internet does.
Power: running a camera on a mini UPS
Cameras use different adapter voltages. According to the makers’ pages, for example, the Tapo C210 runs on 9V 0.6A, while the EZVIZ H6c and C6N run on 5V 1A. The mini UPS port must match the camera adapter’s voltage, connector and polarity exactly; the wrong voltage can damage the camera. More detail: Load-shedding guide.
Memory card or cloud
- Memory card: a one-off cost with no monthly fee. When it’s full, cameras usually overwrite the oldest footage. If the camera is stolen the card goes with it, so mount the camera out of reach.
- Which card: TP-Link recommends at least Class 10 / U1 / V10 speed and, for continuous recording, a “High Endurance” card. Speed and endurance are different: speed is how fast it writes; endurance is how long it survives constant rewriting. The largest card supported varies by model and hardware version; check the maker’s page.
- Cloud: optional. Clips survive if the camera is stolen, but it needs the internet and a subscription. Prices and payment options vary by brand and app; check in the app before you buy.
Working out the full cost
The camera price alone will under-budget you. Add: the camera + a memory card (close to essential without cloud) + any extra cable or socket + backup if you want it running in load-shedding + a subscription if you choose cloud. The table below shows shop prices for a few models, with the date checked.
Setup
- Before mounting it, power the camera up on a table and add it in the app. Install the app named on the box or in the manual.
- Many models join only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Keep your phone on that network while adding the camera.
- Insert the memory card and format it from the app.
- On day one, use a strong account password, and keep the app and camera software updated.
Common problems
- The app says “offline”: check the camera has power, the router has internet, and the camera isn’t too far from the router. If you changed the Wi-Fi name or password, add the camera again. As a last step, reset it as the manual says; a reset may erase its settings.
- Card not recognised: use a genuine card of a type and size the maker supports, insert it with the camera off, then format it from the app.
- Can’t see outside through a window at night: the camera’s night-vision light can reflect off the glass. To watch outside, an outdoor-rated camera is the better option.
Neighbours’ privacy and safety
Don’t point a camera at the next flat, the stairwell or a neighbour’s window. In a rented flat, ask the landlord before drilling. If an outdoor camera needs a new socket or cable, have a qualified electrician fit it with the main switch off, and keep the adapter and cable joints out of the rain.
