Customize How You Wake Up Your Echo Speaker
By default, your Amazon Echo speaker is programmed to listen for the wake word “Alexa.” However, if someone in your household is named Alexa (or a name that sounds similar), your Echo may trigger accidentally. Amazon allows you to change the wake word to several pre-set options. Here is how to do it.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Open the Alexa App on your phone.
- Tap Devices and select the specific Echo speaker you want to change.
- Tap the Settings (Gear) icon in the top right corner.
- Scroll down and tap Wake Word.
- Select your preferred option: Amazon, Echo, Computer, or Ziggy.
- Tap **Save**. Your Echo will flash its light ring as it updates.
Note: You must change the wake word for each Echo device individually; there is currently no global setting.
