Get Your Echo Device Listening Again

It can be highly frustrating when you say your wake word and your Echo speaker sits silent with a spinning blue ring or ignores you completely. If Alexa is not responding to your commands, the cause is usually a minor connection glitch or placement issue. Here are 7 easy steps to fix your unresponsive Echo device.

1. Check the Mute Button

Look at the top of your Echo speaker. If there is a solid red light ring, the microphone is muted. Press the microphone button (a circle with a line through it) on top of the device to unmute it.

2. Verify the Power Supply

Ensure the power cord is pushed firmly into the bottom of the Echo and plugged into a working wall outlet. Avoid plugging the device into USB ports on computers or routers, which do not supply sufficient power.

3. Check the Wi-Fi Connection

If your Echo is flashing a red or orange ring, it has lost connection to your Wi-Fi. Open the Alexa app, go to Devices, select your Echo, and update the Wi-Fi network settings.

4. Restart Your Echo

Unplug the power adapter from the back of the device for 10 seconds, then plug it back in. This clears the internal cache and resolves temporary software bugs.
